What to expect from a Cannabis-Assisted Psychotherapy & Psychedelic Therapy Session

A Model for a Cannabis-Assisted Psychedelic Therapy Treatment Protocol for Post-Traumatic Stress and Anxiety

Cannabis Sativa is a safe and sacred medicinal tool which supports clients in turning inward, resolving tensions stored deep within the body, tracking inner sensations, and releasing traumas from the nervous system. Cannabis-assisted psychedelic therapy is different than “getting high.”  When used in a particular therapeutic container with a professionally trained psychedelic psychotherapist, this modality deepens the therapeutic process and makes somatic (body-centered) trauma work more efficient and more effective. As psychedelic medicines become more and more mainstream, Cannabis Sativa is leading the way.

There is no need to break the law, use unclean or unsafe medicines from unknown sources, or attempt to navigate the Psychedelic Underground to find an illegal guide. While there are plenty of reliable and very skilled underground therapists these days, due the the unregulated nature of the field, you often don’t know what you’re going to find and can’t ensure that you’ll be in good hands when you explore incredibly vulnerable aspects of yourself and your psyche.

Cannabis-Assisted Psychotherapy isn’t all that different than MDMA-assisted psychotherapy.  The clinical orientation and theoretical orientation is inspired by the MAPS protocol for trauma resolution but adapted to a therapeutic and non-research context. Working outside of the research protocol offers some significant advantages, such as a treatment plan which is tailored specifically to the individual, a treatment timeline that is flexible and based on specific client needs, and deeper integration work.

Clients frequently report:

Increased body awareness

Active imaginations and a deep connection with their intuition

A feeling of being very present in the room and with the therapist

Remain in control and lucid the whole time

Profound new levels of nervous system regulation

Developing a sense of agency in their lives, feeling more in control of life situations and having more choice

Feeling a deeper connection with their sense of purpose

What integration looks like

As professional psychedelic therapists, one of our specialties is helping clients integrate the lessons of their medicine experiences into their everyday lives.  In other words, doing something with the profound insights they achieve during psychedelic experiences. We support clients in building healthy and sustainable lives and lifestyles, living into their true purpose, and in being of service to others.

How many sessions will it take for me to feel better?

This very much depends on the person.  We have seen some people gain great benefit from one session and spend the next year integrating from that journey.  Others have wanted 2-3 cannabis sessions over a several month period to reduce trauma and anxiety symptoms. It depends on the person, the amount of symptoms they are struggling with, and how much support they have outside of our sessions.  Speak to your therapist to create a protocol that works for you.
